In recognition of the specific challenges in compliance issues faced by drycleaners, Bill Dunagan, one of EMAP’s environmental consultants who specializes in air quality issues, has been focusing on providing this community with the extra help it needs.
The Mercury-Free Thermostat Act (Act No. 97 and House Bill 44) was signed into law on October 9, 2008, setting goals for collection, recycling, and phasing out of mercury thermostats. This legislation affects mall businesses who use and/or sell mercury-based thermostats.
The speakers included Bill Dunagan from the Environmental Management Assistance Program, EMAP. He explained the functions of the program, which offer free and confidential help to those seeking to come into compliance.
